How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Slovakia?
When you switch internet provider, the new provider runs the process. Your old provider must keep serving you on the same terms until the new one starts, and any interruption may last at most one working day (§ 89 Act 452/2021).
Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Slovakia.

The details
- Your internet service has a unique identifier printed on your invoice, which goes into the switch request. All administrative and technical steps must be done within three working days of the old provider receiving the request, four if the service runs over another operator's network. (static.slov-lex.sk)
- After receiving the request, the old provider must tell you by phone, SMS or e-mail the terms on which your contract ends, including any penalty for leaving during the commitment period (doba viazanosti). (static.slov-lex.sk)
- For a late switch you get €10 per day, €20 per day after the sixth day, at most €150; for a switch against your will €30 per day, at most €300. Claim late-switch compensation from the new provider; it is paid within 60 days. (static.slov-lex.sk)
- If your provider gave you an e-mail address on its own domain, on request it must forward your mail to a new address, or keep the mailbox accessible, for six months after the contract ends, where technically feasible (§ 92 Act 452/2021). (static.slov-lex.sk)
- RÚ runs an official online comparator of phone and internet prices; providers must report every price change to RÚ by the 15th of the following month. (teleoff.gov.sk)

❓ Questions
Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?
There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Slovakia on this page.
Can I switch before my contract ends?
Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.
Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?
That depends on the service and the rules in Slovakia. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
