📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Albania?

The short answer

Albania's electronic communications law has no special rule for moving house. A fixed-term contract continues, and leaving it early can cost a capped fee. If you also change provider, you can keep a fixed number only within the same numbering zone.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Albania are below.

The details

  • Leaving a fixed-term contract early can cost a fee, but no more than the base monthly fees for the remaining months or, where your contract has a spending commitment and this is lower, the part not yet spent (AKEP Regulation 49/2021, art. 18). (akep.al)
  • Once your contract has become open-ended, you can end it at any time with 30 days' notice (AKEP Regulation 49/2021, art. 17). (akep.al)
  • A fixed number can be ported only to another fixed network in the same geographic numbering zone. Fixed numbers cannot be moved to mobile networks, or mobile numbers to fixed ones. (akep.al)

  1. Tell the provider earlyGive your moving date and new address, and ask whether the same service is available there.
  2. Check what changesAsk whether the move restarts the minimum term, costs a fee or changes the speed or the price.
  3. Book the connection in timeArrange the connection at the new home early, especially if a technician has to come.
  4. End the contract if you need toIf the service is not available at the new address, ask in writing to end the contract under the rules for Albania.
