📅 How long can a phone or internet contract last in Croatia, and how do I end it?

The short answer

A minimum term in a consumer phone or internet contract may last at most 24 months, and operators must also offer 12-month contracts. The minimum term may not be extended automatically.

Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Croatia.

📜 The rules in Croatia

The details

  • Contracts are concluded for an indefinite period. When the minimum term ends, the operator keeps providing the service on the agreed terms until you or it cancels. The price without a minimum term may be higher. (hakom.hr)
  • After the minimum term you can cancel at any time without any fee. Your silence never counts as agreeing to a new minimum term; such a contract is void. (narodne-novine.nn.hr)
  • The operator does not have to tell you when the minimum term is about to end. (hakom.hr)
  • Cancelling early costs the remaining monthly fees or the discount you received, whichever is lower for you. Remaining instalments for a device bought on instalments stay due either way. (hakom.hr)
  • The operator must accept cancellation through the same channels it uses for sign-ups and carry it out within 5 working days (fixed) or 1 working day (mobile). After your request it may not contact you to talk you out of it. (narodne-novine.nn.hr)
  • You can cancel without an early-termination fee if the operator cannot install the service within 30 days, cannot move it to your new address, worsens the contract terms (within 2 months), or cannot provide the service as agreed. (hakom.hr)
  • At least once a year you can ask to suspend the service for 3 months without paying the monthly fee. A reconnection fee may apply, and the minimum term is extended by the suspension period. (hakom.hr)
