How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Croatia?
To switch, sign up with the new operator and say you have an active service elsewhere. The switch request also ends your old contract on the switch day. Fixed-line switches take at most 30 days from the request, mobile ones 2 working days.
Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Croatia.

The details
- Before you switch, check whether a minimum term is still running. On request the operator must tell you the early-termination fee within 1 working day: the remaining monthly fees or the discount you received, whichever is lower for you. (hakom.hr)
- For a fixed-line switch, the new operator must confirm the date and time window within 15 days of your request. If it doesn't, you can cancel the new contract without an early-termination fee until the service is installed. (hakom.hr)
- If you don't tick on the request that you accept paying any early-termination debt, or you keep some services, the old operator may delay the switch by 5 working days and must tell you what you owe and how to withdraw. (hakom.hr)
- A late, early or unwanted switch gives you €30 per started day, for at most 15 days. Claim it in writing from the new operator within 30 days of the switch; if it refuses, or doesn't answer within 30 days, report it to HAKOM's inspector. (hakom.hr)
- If you signed the new contract at a distance (online or by phone), you can cancel it within 14 days without any fee; that notice also counts as withdrawing the switch request. (hakom.hr)
- If you think the switch was wrongly refused, complain in writing to the new operator within 3 working days of the notice. If the answer is negative, report it to HAKOM's electronic communications inspector within 30 days. (hakom.hr)
- The operator's terms must let you return its equipment up to 15 days after receiving the bill that charges for it; once you return it, that charge is cancelled. (narodne-novine.nn.hr)
Hrvatska regulatorna agencija za mrežne djelatnosti (HAKOM)
Telecom regulator: explains your rights on its user protection line (working days 9:00–11:30) and settles disputes with operators after the operator's two-stage complaint procedure.
Inspektor elektroničkih komunikacija (HAKOM)
Handles your report if switching compensation is refused, wrongly calculated or not answered within 30 days; email inspektor@hakom.hr.

❓ Questions
Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?
There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Croatia on this page.
Can I switch before my contract ends?
Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.
Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?
That depends on the service and the rules in Croatia. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
