⚖️ My phone or internet provider will not solve my complaint: where can I go for free in Latvia?

The short answer

SPRK settles disputes between you and your telecom provider out of court. Try to settle with the provider in writing first. SPRK's decision becomes binding unless a party goes to court or arbitration within 30 days.

If your provider does not solve your complaint, an independent body can look at it, usually free of charge for you. You normally have to complain to the provider first; how to file in Latvia is below.

📜 The rules in Latvia

The details

  • Send a written application stating the dispute, your claim and proof that you tried to settle, such as your complaint and the reply. SPRK decides within 30 days whether to open the case, then examines it within three months. (likumi.lv)
  • According to the official register of out-of-court dispute bodies kept by PTAC, SPRK charges no fee for these disputes and its decisions are binding. (registri.ptac.gov.lv)
  • SPRK does not decide disputes about damages, payment documents or debt collection; these go to court. Disputes are handled in Latvian: bring your own interpreter if needed, and add certified translations of foreign-language documents. (likumi.lv)
  • For other consumer disputes, PTAC's Consumer Dispute Resolution Commission can help free of charge after PTAC itself has tried; its decisions are recommendations. It does not take disputes that belong to another out-of-court body. (ptac.gov.lv)
