Do I pay extra to use my phone in other EU countries with a plan from Greece?
In EU countries, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein you pay domestic prices: calls, SMS and data come out of your Greek plan with no extra charge, and incoming calls are free. Providers may apply a fair use policy.
With a plan from an operator in the EU or EEA, calls, texts and data in other EU and EEA countries are generally charged as at home, within fair-use limits. Other rules apply to plans from other countries; what applies with a plan from Greece is below.
📜 The rules in Greece
The details
- When you arrive in another EU country you get an SMS with the charges that apply to you and a number you can call free of charge for more information. (eett.gr)
- Roaming at home prices is for periodic travel. If you use your phone abroad permanently, for example after moving with your Greek SIM, your provider may add a surcharge, within EU limits. (europa.eu)
- On ships and planes the EU rules apply only when you connect to a land-based mobile network. Satellite connections are unregulated, so switch off roaming or use flight mode. (europa.eu)

File a complaint with the online form after you have first complained to your provider, which must reply in writing within 20 calendar days. EETT can impose penalties but does not settle individual disputes or award compensation.
🪜 Step by step
- Check your plan before you travelSee which countries your plan treats like home and whether it has a separate data allowance abroad.
- Read the welcome messageWhen you arrive, your operator usually sends a message with the prices and limits that apply.
- Watch the fair-use limitUnlimited or very large data plans can have a smaller allowance abroad. Above it, a surcharge can apply.
- Take care on ships, planes and near bordersThere your phone can connect to a network outside the usual roaming rules. Switch off roaming or use flight mode when in doubt.

Are calls back home free?
Calls home usually cost the same as at home when roaming at home prices applies. Calls to other countries can cost extra.
