📅 How long can a phone or internet contract last in Greece, and how do I end it?

The short answer

A phone or internet contract may not bind you for more than 24 months. After an automatic extension you can end it at any time, with at most one month's notice and no charge beyond the service you use (art. 213, Law 4727/2020).

Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Greece.

📜 The rules in Greece

The details

  • If your contract renews automatically or turns indefinite-term, the provider must warn you twice, through every channel it uses for your bills, the first time at least two months before the end date. (eett.gr)
  • Ending a fixed-term contract in its first two months costs two monthly fees; later, a quarter of the monthly fees left until the end date. Part of any device or connection subsidy still to be paid off is added. (eett.gr)
  • No early-termination fee is allowed for indefinite-term contracts, prepaid, unfavourable contract changes or speed below the contractual minimum. No renewal fee either when your contract has become indefinite-term and you sign a new fixed-term one. (eett.gr)
  • Adding services or equipment from the same provider does not extend your original contract term, unless you expressly agree to that when you order. (eett.gr)
