🔄 How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Greece?

The short answer

The new provider coordinates the switch, and the old one keeps serving you on the same terms until it is done. You may be without service for at most one working day, and your old contract ends automatically (art. 214, Law 4727/2020).

Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Greece.

📜 The rules in Greece

The details

  • You only go to the new provider: your porting application also asks the current provider to end your services. Submit it in writing with a copy of your ID, electronically with secure identification, or by phone, where the call may be recorded with your consent. (eett.gr)
  • Providers may not switch you or port your number without your explicit consent. On request, the old provider must refund any prepaid credit; a fee for this is allowed only if your contract provides for it. (eett.gr)
  • Leaving a fixed-term contract early can cost an early-termination fee, but no other disconnection fee is allowed. No fee at all applies if your contract is or has become indefinite-term. (eett.gr)

❓ Questions

Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?

There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Greece on this page.

Can I switch before my contract ends?

Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.

Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?

That depends on the service and the rules in Greece. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
