Can I keep my phone number when I switch provider in Greece?
You can keep your fixed or mobile number when you switch; a fixed number only within the same geographic area. The current provider must examine the request within 6 working hours, and porting is completed within one working day after it accepts.
You can usually take your mobile or landline number with you to a new provider. You ask the new provider to transfer it, and the number moves on an agreed day.
📜 The rules in Greece
Compensation
Under EETT's portability rules, delays by providers beyond three working days entitle you to twice your monthly voice fee, pro rata for each extra calendar day. Claim from the responsible provider within two months; it must pay within 30 days, otherwise turn to EETT.
The details
- The current provider may reject your request only if your tax number (or ID or passport number) differs from its records, or if the number is inactive or belongs to someone else. Fill in the application completely and correctly. (eett.gr)
- You can port during a fixed-term contract, but your obligations remain: any early-termination fee, unpaid bills and the remaining device subsidy. (eett.gr)
- A request lapses if not completed within 60 calendar days for fixed numbers or 30 for mobile. You can cancel it, only through the new provider, if you signed at a distance or off-premises, within 14 calendar days. (eett.gr)
- After ending a contract you keep the right to port your number for at least one month, unless you give it up. You may not be charged directly for porting. (eett.gr)
Εθνική Επιτροπή Τηλεπικοινωνιών και Ταχυδρομείων (ΕΕΤΤ)
File a complaint with the online form after you have first complained to your provider, which must reply in writing within 20 calendar days. EETT can impose penalties but does not settle individual disputes or award compensation.

🪜 Step by step
- Do not cancel the old contract firstIf you end the old contract before the transfer, the number can be lost. Let the new provider request the transfer.
- Get your details readyYou usually need the number, the name on the old contract and sometimes a customer number or transfer code from the old provider.
- Agree the transfer dateThe new provider tells you when the number moves. Keep the old SIM or line in use until then.
- Check that everything worksTest calls and messages on the new SIM or line, and check that the old provider sends a final bill and stops charging.

❓ Questions
How long does a number transfer take?
It is usually quick. If the rules in Greece set a maximum time or compensation for delays, you find them on this page.
Can I keep my number if I still owe the old provider money?
You still have to pay what you owe under the old contract. Ask the new provider before you switch whether anything could hold up the transfer.
Can I move a mobile number to a landline, or the other way round?
Usually not: mobile numbers move between mobile providers, landline numbers between landline providers.
