I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Norway?
There is no special right to leave because you move. Outside the binding period you can end the subscription at any time. Within it, your contract terms decide what happens, including any break fee.
When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Norway are below.
📜 The rules in Norway
The details
- No broadband provider has a duty to deliver broadband to you, so check early whether your provider can serve your new address. (forbrukerradet.no)
- In a 2013 case, BKN found the contract terms decisive: the provider could not deliver at the new address, ended the subscription under its terms, and the customer had to pay the break fee. (bkn.no)
- If the line at your new home is still registered to the previous occupant, taking it over is not a switch under ekomloven § 4-14 but a new order, according to Nkom. (nkom.no)
Brukerklagenemnda for elektronisk kommunikasjon (BKN)
Neutral, independent board for disputes between private customers and providers of phone, internet and TV services. Your complaint must first go to the provider.
Forbrukerrådet
Consumer council: explains your rights as a broadband or mobile customer and offers a standard complaint letter to send to your provider.
