My phone or internet is down: do I get compensation in Slovakia?
Repairing a fault you did not cause is free. If the provider's fault leaves you without phone service, you can claim back a proportional part of the price; claim it from the provider within three months after service is restored (§ 87 Act 452/2021).
When your line is down, your provider has to repair it. In some countries you get compensation if a fault is not fixed in time; what applies in Slovakia, and what it means for emergency calls, is below.
📜 The rules in Slovakia
Compensation
There is no fixed compensation amount for outages. For phone services you can claim a pro-rata refund of the price for the time without service, within three months after it is restored.
Emergency calls
Calls to 112 and the other national emergency numbers are free, and you can also send a free SMS to 112. Providers must pass the caller's location to the emergency centre.
The details
- This refund rule does not apply to internet access services; for an internet fault, file a complaint (reklamácia) under your provider's complaints procedure. (static.slov-lex.sk)
- If, even after a repeated complaint that was accepted, the provider still does not deliver the service as agreed, you can withdraw without penalty within one month of that acceptance; this does not apply to internet access. (static.slov-lex.sk)
- No mobile signal, mobile data or fixed internet in your municipality? You can report it to RÚ with its 'Nemám signál' form. (teleoff.gov.sk)

❓ Questions
Can I still call emergency services during an outage?
Emergency calls from a mobile phone usually go through any available network. If your phone cannot connect, ask someone nearby to call.
Is a short outage compensated?
Usually only longer faults or missed repair appointments are. The rule for Slovakia, if there is one, is on this page.
What if the faults keep coming back?
Repeated faults can give you the right to a lower price or to end the contract. Ask the regulator or the dispute body.
