How long can a phone or internet contract last in Denmark, and how do I end it?
A consumer phone or internet contract in Denmark may bind you for at most six months, including notice. After that you can cancel at any time; the notice may be at most one month plus the current month (slutbrugerbekendtgørelsen § 7; forbrugeraftaleloven § 28).
Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Denmark.
📜 The rules in Denmark
The details
- No term may tie you longer indirectly. The authority's example: a phone bought on 12 monthly instalments may not make the whole remaining balance fall due if you cancel the subscription after six months. (digst.dk)
- If you have prepaid, for example a subscription fee, the provider must refund the proportionate amount on its own initiative when the contract ends. (digst.dk)
- Adding extra services or equipment does not extend the term unless you expressly accept it. In a bundle with internet or a phone service, the binding rules cover every part (§ 10). (retsinformation.dk)
- Before a fixed-term contract renews automatically, the provider must tell you on a durable medium how to cancel and advise you on its best price. Such contracts are unusual in Denmark (§ 8). (digst.dk)
