📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Hungary?

The short answer

If you move, your provider must relocate your fixed connection within its service area on request, unless impossible for reasons beyond its control. If it cannot move a fixed-term contract to your new home, you may terminate within 15 days of its notice, without consequences.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Hungary are below.

📜 The rules in Hungary

The details

  • The provider must examine your relocation request within 15 days and reply in writing. It must carry out the move within the deadline in its terms, at most 30 days after your request, or on a later date you asked for. (njt.jog.gov.hu)
  • The provider may charge a reasonable relocation fee in line with its costs. While the service is suspended between the old and the new address, it may not charge you any fee. (njt.jog.gov.hu)
  • If the provider misses the relocation deadline, it owes you a penalty (kötbér) for every day of delay. (njt.jog.gov.hu)
  • The provider may refuse to relocate if you still owe fees after the deadline in its payment reminder (at least 15 days). (njt.jog.gov.hu)
