Can I use my own router or modem instead of the provider’s in Slovenia?
You may use terminal equipment of your choice. For fixed internet the network termination point is the provider's modem output: on request the provider must let you choose and manage your own router connected to it. For mobile, any device the network supports.
Many people prefer their own router. Whether your provider must let you connect it, and which details it must give you to set it up, depends on the rules in Slovenia.
📜 The rules in Slovenia
The details
- Providers may not treat customers who use their own equipment any differently from those using the provider's equipment. If the provider's device combines modem and router, it must give you the connection at that device's output. (uradni-list.si)
- Your equipment must meet EU technical standards and you are responsible for it. If it disrupts the network, the provider may temporarily suspend your service until the problem is fixed. (uradni-list.si)
- Operators may not refuse a reasonable request to connect your radio or terminal equipment if it meets the applicable technical rules. (uradni-list.si)
- Under the EU open internet regulation, you have the right to use terminal equipment of your choice through your internet access service. (publications.europa.eu)

❓ Questions
Will the provider still help me if something goes wrong?
Providers usually support the connection itself, not equipment you bought. Keep their device and settings so you can test with them.
Do I still pay for the provider’s router?
Check your contract. If the router is rented, ask whether you can stop paying when you use your own.
Will my own router make my internet faster?
It can improve your Wi‑Fi, but the speed of the line itself stays the same.
