📅 How long can a phone or internet contract last in Slovenia, and how do I end it?

The short answer

A consumer contract may not have an initial commitment longer than 24 months. Adding services or equipment does not extend it unless you expressly agree. After a fixed-term contract renews automatically, you can cancel at any time with one month's notice and no costs.

Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Slovenia.

📜 The rules in Slovenia

The details

  • At least 30 days before an automatic renewal, the operator must tell you clearly, on a durable medium, that your commitment ends and how to cancel, and advise you on its best prices. It must advise on the best tariffs at least once a year. (uradni-list.si)
  • No administrative costs may be charged when you change package with the same operator or end the contract after the commitment period. Termination terms must not discourage switching provider. (uradni-list.si)
  • The commitment period and the benefits period can differ, e.g. a discounted fee for one year in return for a two-year commitment. Check both before signing. (akos-rs.si)
  • During the one-month notice period after an automatic renewal you pay only for the services you use. (uradni-list.si)
