🔄 How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Slovenia?

The short answer

To change internet provider, submit a switching request on a special form to the new provider; it arranges the switch with the old one. Your old contract then ends automatically. The service may be interrupted for at most one working day.

Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Slovenia.

📜 The rules in Slovenia

The details

  • The new provider must respond within two working days, agree the switch date with the old provider and tell you the details of the physical changeover. Until the new service works, the old provider must keep serving you without interruption. (uradni-list.si)
  • If the switch is delayed or misused, the provider at fault pays you €10 for each started day of delay, or €100 for misuse or breach of the switching rules, to your bank account on request. Further damages remain possible. (uradni-list.si)
  • Leaving during a commitment can cost you: a proportional part of the benefits received for the commitment, the phone discount, administrative costs, and returning equipment. Without a commitment, or after it ends, you can leave free of charge at any time. (akos-rs.si)
  • You can also cancel the old contract yourself (usually in writing, signed, ideally by registered mail) and sign a new one. Agree the connection date with the new provider so the changeover between providers is as short as possible. (akos-rs.si)

❓ Questions

Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?

There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Slovenia on this page.

Can I switch before my contract ends?

Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.

Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?

That depends on the service and the rules in Slovenia. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
