📲 Can I keep my phone number when I switch provider in Slovenia?

The short answer

You keep your number free of charge when you change operator. Ask the new operator to port it and agree the date. It must work in the new network within one working day of that date; service may stop for one working day at most.

You can usually take your mobile or landline number with you to a new provider. You ask the new provider to transfer it, and the number moves on an agreed day.

📜 The rules in Slovenia

Compensation

€10 for each started day of delay in porting, and €100 for misuse (e.g. a port you did not request) or breach of the porting rules. The provider at fault pays to your bank account on request; damages beyond this remain possible.

The details

  • With a postpaid contract, give the new operator your number and a bill from the old operator not older than three months; with a prepaid card, your number and the SIM card's PUK code. (uradni-list.si)
  • You can still port your number for at least one month after your cancellation took effect, unless you gave up this right. With prepaid, you can claim back remaining credit; admin costs only if agreed in advance and not above actual costs. (uradni-list.si)
  • After successful porting, the old contract ends automatically for number-based services; for other services only if you expressly asked. If porting fails, the old operator must reactivate your number and services until it succeeds. (uradni-list.si)
  • Operators do not have to port a number from a fixed to a mobile network or the other way round. (uradni-list.si)

🪜 Step by step

  1. Do not cancel the old contract firstIf you end the old contract before the transfer, the number can be lost. Let the new provider request the transfer.
  2. Get your details readyYou usually need the number, the name on the old contract and sometimes a customer number or transfer code from the old provider.
  3. Agree the transfer dateThe new provider tells you when the number moves. Keep the old SIM or line in use until then.
  4. Check that everything worksTest calls and messages on the new SIM or line, and check that the old provider sends a final bill and stops charging.

❓ Questions

How long does a number transfer take?

It is usually quick. If the rules in Slovenia set a maximum time or compensation for delays, you find them on this page.

Can I keep my number if I still owe the old provider money?

You still have to pay what you owe under the old contract. Ask the new provider before you switch whether anything could hold up the transfer.

Can I move a mobile number to a landline, or the other way round?

Usually not: mobile numbers move between mobile providers, landline numbers between landline providers.
