📝 What must I get before I sign a phone or internet contract in Lithuania, and can I change my mind?

The short answer

Before you sign, the provider must give you a free, short contract summary in the EU template: its contacts, the services, charges, duration, renewal and cancellation terms. The contract takes effect only once you confirm your agreement after receiving the summary.

Before you sign, you should get the key terms in writing: price, term, speed and how to leave. In many countries a short contract summary is required, and contracts made online, by phone or at your door usually come with a cooling-off period. The rules for Lithuania are below.

📜 The rules in Lithuania

The details

  • For internet, the summary must also cover speeds and the remedies for poor performance. Pre-contract information must be given on a durable medium and becomes part of the contract; it can be changed only by agreement. (e-seimas.lrs.lt)
  • If you sign at a distance, such as online or by phone, or away from the provider's premises, you can withdraw within 14 days of concluding the contract, without giving a reason (Civil Code art. 6.228(10)). (e-seimas.lrs.lt)
  • If the provider did not tell you about this right, the withdrawal period is extended by up to 12 months. (e-seimas.lrs.lt)
  • Ask the provider to explain all contract terms, and to put anything agreed orally into the written contract. It can be hard to prove later that general terms you signed for were never given to you. (rrt.lt)
