How long can a phone or internet contract last in Lithuania, and how do I end it?
A fixed-term contract, or its minimum period, may last at most 24 months, and providers must also offer contracts of at most 12 months. After an automatic extension you can end the contract at any time without extra costs, giving 5 working days' notice.
Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Lithuania.
📜 The rules in Lithuania
The details
- At least one month before the term ends, the provider must tell you on a durable medium that it is ending, how to cancel, and its best tariffs. After an automatic extension it must send you its best tariffs at least once a year. (e-seimas.lrs.lt)
- If you leave early, the charges, including for equipment, must reflect the provider's real losses and may never exceed the monthly fees left to pay. You can cancel by any channel the provider uses to sign contracts, for example by phone. (e-seimas.lrs.lt)
- Adding a phone or extra services to an existing contract does not extend its minimum period, unless you clearly agree to the extension when you order them. (e-seimas.lrs.lt)
- When the minimum period ends, services usually continue without the discount, so the monthly fee goes up. RRT says this does not count as a price rise. (rrt.lt)
