📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Sweden?

The short answer

Moving does not give you a right to end your contract early. You must pay for the whole binding period, even if the service does not work in your new home; the operator can demand the remaining months as a lump sum.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Sweden are below.

📜 The rules in Sweden

The details

  • Before you move, check on PTS's Bredbandskartan whether broadband is available at the new address and who provides it there. (pts.se)
  • Your notice period may be at most one month (7 kap. 13 § LEK), so if no binding period remains, cancel about a month before you move. (riksdagen.se)
  • Cancel in writing, for example by email, and ask for a confirmation. The operator cannot require you to cancel in a particular way, such as by phone. (konsumentverket.se)
  • A fibre connection contract applies to the property: you are usually still bound if you move or sell during the installation, so agree with the buyer on who pays. (konsumentverket.se)
