📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Belgium?

The short answer

Moving to a home that already has a connection, which is usually the case? Then you simply sign a contract with the operator of your choice. Connection costs are usually included in the subscription; extra works are charged only in exceptional cases.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Belgium are below.

The details

  • Moving and changing operator? Easy Switch lets the new operator cancel the old contract, and you can ask to keep the old services running for a while after the new ones work. Staying with the same operator? Easy Switch does not apply. (bipt.be)
  • Ending the old contract: no fee for an open-ended contract or after six months of a fixed-term one; earlier, at most the fees up to month six. A discounted device's remaining value may still be due. (bipt.be)
  • An old social telecom discount (requested before 1 March 2024) ends when your fixed-internet address changes. If you qualify, you can apply for the social internet offer with an operator at your new home. (bipt.be)
