My phone or internet price is going up: can I leave my contract in Greece?
During a fixed term your provider may not raise the monthly fee or cut what your plan includes, even with a device subsidy or discount. Other tariffs may change only with at least one month's notice and a right to leave free of charge.
When a provider changes the price or terms during your contract, you may have the right to leave without a fee. That depends on what your contract already said about price changes and on the rules in Greece.
📜 The rules in Greece
Price rises built into the contract
EETT allows a monthly-fee rise during a fixed term only for technological changes the provider must make to keep the service running and that raise wholesale costs; EETT must be told first, and you may then leave free of charge. No other exception is listed.
The details
- You can leave free of charge up to two months after the new tariffs take effect if you are billed monthly, three months if billed every two months, and one month for prepaid. (eett.gr)
- The notice comes as a link sent in at least two ways: a free SMS, e-mail, or the provider's online application for managing your connection. (eett.gr)
- No free exit for tariff cuts, international calls and non-EU roaming, line transfer or reconnection fees, premium-rate services, or taxes and charges imposed by law. Any remaining device or equipment subsidy is still owed. (eett.gr)
- More generally, you can end the contract free of charge after any change of terms the provider proposes, unless it is purely in your favour, purely administrative with no negative effect, or required by EU or Greek law. (eett.gr)
Εθνική Επιτροπή Τηλεπικοινωνιών και Ταχυδρομείων (ΕΕΤΤ)
File a complaint with the online form after you have first complained to your provider, which must reply in writing within 20 calendar days. EETT can impose penalties but does not settle individual disputes or award compensation.
Συνήγορος του Καταναλωτή
Free out-of-court mediation of disputes with your phone or internet provider. Complaints are not accepted by phone; file online, by post or in person.
🪜 Step by step
- Read the notice carefullyNote the date the change starts and any deadline to react. Keep the message.
- Check your contractSee whether the contract already set out this rise, for example a yearly increase linked to inflation.
- Decide whether to stayCompare offers. If you have the right to leave, use it in writing before the deadline.
- Complain if the rules were not followedIf you were not told properly or the rise breaks your contract, complain to the provider and then to the dispute body.

❓ Questions
Is a price rise linked to inflation allowed?
It can be, if the contract set it out clearly. Whether it gives you a right to leave is in the rules for Greece on this page.
How much warning must the provider give?
Providers usually have to tell you before the change starts. Where the rules in Greece set a notice period, it is on this page.
What if I miss the deadline to leave?
The new price then usually applies. You can still leave at the end of the minimum term, or with notice if the contract already runs on.
