Can I use my own router or modem instead of the provider’s in Greece?
Since 1 October 2023 you can buy and use a router of your choice on a fixed line. With fibre to the home, the optical network terminal (ONT) stays the provider's responsibility and the router is your choice.
Many people prefer their own router. Whether your provider must let you connect it, and which details it must give you to set it up, depends on the rules in Greece.
📜 The rules in Greece
The details
- If the provider's router has the ONT built in, you can ask for a separate ONT, before signing or during the contract. The provider must install it within five working days. (eett.gr)
- For IPTV, if the TV box is built into the router, you can ask for a separate box; the provider must supply it within five working days. (eett.gr)
- The provider may disconnect faulty equipment that is proven to cause faults on the public network and affect other users. (eett.gr)
- Internet providers may not restrict tethering, such as sharing your mobile connection as a hotspot or via Bluetooth. (eett.gr)
Εθνική Επιτροπή Τηλεπικοινωνιών και Ταχυδρομείων (ΕΕΤΤ)
File a complaint with the online form after you have first complained to your provider, which must reply in writing within 20 calendar days. EETT can impose penalties but does not settle individual disputes or award compensation.

❓ Questions
Will the provider still help me if something goes wrong?
Providers usually support the connection itself, not equipment you bought. Keep their device and settings so you can test with them.
Do I still pay for the provider’s router?
Check your contract. If the router is rented, ask whether you can stop paying when you use your own.
Will my own router make my internet faster?
It can improve your Wi‑Fi, but the speed of the line itself stays the same.
