Is my copper phone line being switched off in Greece, and what happens to my contract?
EETT approves the retirement of the copper network exchange area by exchange area, not on one national date. It monitors the process under a 2025 regulation, with the obliged operators reporting every six months, including binding three-year fibre plans.
Many countries are replacing old copper phone lines with fibre. Where an official plan exists, it sets how much warning you get and what happens to your contract; the plan for Greece is below.
📜 The rules in Greece
The switch-off plan
No national date. Copper is switched off per exchange area after EETT approval; the earliest planned date on EETT's July 2026 list is April 2028.
The details
- EETT's tracking list (July 2026) covers seven exchange areas, with copper switch-off dates from April 2028 to June 2029. (eett.gr)
- In each listed area, new copper orders stop 6 months after the process starts, compulsory migration of subscribers begins at 18 months, and copper is switched off at 36 months. (eett.gr)
- Before approving, EETT checks among other things the share of subscribers in the area already on fibre to the home; in the first approved area it was over 50%. (eett.gr)

❓ Questions
Do I have to move to fibre?
When the copper line is switched off, you need another connection to keep your service. Which options you have depends on your address.
Does the switch cost me anything?
That depends on the plan and on the offers you get. Ask for any offer in writing.
Will my landline number still work?
Usually yes: you can normally keep your number on the new connection. Ask your provider.
