Krüsemann: a wildcat strike by the airline’s own staff is not "extraordinary"

Staff strikes the airline triggered count against it, not you.

Legal referenceJoined Cases C-195/17 and others, 17 April 2018

A "wildcat" strike by an airline’s own staff — here, in response to a surprise restructuring announcement — was held to be inherent in the normal exercise of the carrier’s activity and within its control.

So a strike by the airline’s own pilots or crew usually does not excuse compensation. A genuine third-party strike — air-traffic control, airport security — can be different.
