Is there a social tariff or cheaper phone and internet for people on a low income in Denmark?
The Danish universal service includes no cheaper phone or internet tariff: the designation of a voice telephony provider ended on 1 October 2022, and none is designated for broadband. It does cover a text-telephone service for people with speech or hearing disabilities.
Some countries have a social tariff or other support so that people on a low income can afford a phone and internet connection, and many guarantee a basic connection. What exists in Denmark is below.

Who qualifies
Deaf, deafened and deafblind people and groups with speech or hearing impairments whom the service substantially helps, after assessment. Nuuday provides it under the universal service until the end of 2029.
The details
- The text-telephone service's relay centre is open around the clock, and emergency calls have priority. The service itself is free whatever your provider; calls through it can cost normal call rates. (digst.dk)
- Bredbåndspuljen, a state fund under the Finance Act, subsidises fast internet; the 2026 round targets single addresses that find it hard to team up with others. Only addresses announced in time can apply; the deadline is 30 October 2026 at 12:00. (digst.dk)
- If you cannot get broadband at your address, the authority suggests checking with neighbours, asking several providers and telling your municipality. (tjekditnet.dk)
- Spending control helps keep bills down: providers that charge by usage must offer it free when you sign up and when you adjust it, once a quarter. (digst.dk)
