🔄 How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Bulgaria?

The short answer

When you switch internet provider, the new provider runs the process; no one may switch you without explicit consent. The old provider serves you until the new service works, any break lasts one working day at most, then the old contract ends (art. 230б).

Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Bulgaria.

📜 The rules in Bulgaria

The details

  • Under CRC's rules the switch must be completed within 10 working days of the start of the procedure, installation included. It starts 7 days after your request, so you can still cancel without penalty, unless you sign for an immediate start. (crc.bg)
  • These rules apply when both providers use the same network or a wholesale access deal and the service stays at the same address; in other cases the switch follows the conditions in your contracts. (crc.bg)
  • If the switch is late, done without your consent, or an installation appointment is missed, claim compensation per day of delay from the new provider within two months of your request; it must reply within 30 days. The amount is in the pre-contract information. (crc.bg)
  • After you apply, your old provider and its sales partners may not contact you to discuss the switch or to make you new offers. (crc.bg)
  • Compare offers in CRC's free tariff comparison tool: providers must publish their retail prices and tariff conditions there. (crc.bg)

❓ Questions

Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?

There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Bulgaria on this page.

Can I switch before my contract ends?

Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.

Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?

That depends on the service and the rules in Bulgaria. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
