📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Latvia?

The short answer

The Electronic Communications Law has no special rule for moving house, so your contract decides whether the service can move with you. An open-ended contract can always be ended with one month's notice and no penalty.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Latvia are below.

The details

  • If you end a fixed-term contract early because you move, the provider may charge a penalty, but it must be split proportionally over each full month left. (likumi.lv)
  • Check which internet services are available at the new address on platjoslaskarte.lv, which shows providers, technologies and maximum speed ranges for each address. (sprk.gov.lv)
  • Tell your provider about your new correspondence address, as changes to your details can affect how the contract is carried out. (sprk.gov.lv)
  • If you change provider when you move, you can still port your number within one month after your old contract ends, unless you gave up this right. (likumi.lv)
