Train delays: 25%–50% of the fare

EU rail passengers have their own refund scale for long delays.

Legal referenceRegulation (EU) 2021/782, Art. 19

For trains covered by EU rail passenger rules, a long delay entitles you to a refund of part of the ticket price:

  • 25% of the fare for a delay of 60–119 minutes
  • 50% of the fare for a delay of 120 minutes or more

Some operators run more generous "money-back-on-delay" schemes. Note that, unlike flights, this is a fare refund rather than fixed cash compensation.
